Does ChatGPT Have a Word Limit?
If you’re using ChatGPT as your very own AI writing assistant, you may be wondering if there is a limit on how much text you can send the chatbot. While there is no set ChatGPT word limit, many users have reported the bot breaking down when over 500 to 1000 words were submitted. So, keeping your submission under 500 words around your chosen topic seems like the safest option.
On the other hand, there is said to be a definite token limit when using the model. According to OpenAI, this is around 4000 tokens, and once you exceed this, you will have to start a new chat. In regards to the length of ChatGPT’s responses, there doesn’t seem to be a limit.
Although, the AI chatbot does have limitations, and asking it to write a complex 10,000-word essay may result in an undesired, poor- quality response. An easy way to get around this is to ask ChatGPT to write in 500 to 1000-word chunks.
What about the max length for ChatGPT? According to OpenAI, the per message ChatGPT word limit is 3000 words, which can be split up into multiple messages. It’s worth noting that this limit is not for a single prompt, but for the entire conversation.
For those with the paid version, ChatGPT Plus, it is currently unclear whether users have a different input limit. It has been claimed that with ChatGPT Plus, the limit is still 4000 tokens or around 3000 words. Remember though, once you exceed this, you will have to begin a new chat thread.
We’d suggest that you make your prompts as clear as possible, and break them down into smaller sections to get the most accurate response from ChatGPT.
