What is Generative AI? Everything You Need To Know
The potential of AI technology has been simmering for years. But when ChatGPT, the AI chatbot, began grabbing headlines in early 2023, it put generative AI into the limelight. Generative AI creates content from a user query using the data from its machine learning model, automatically generating images, text, or videos through AI.
Popular AI-generated content from ChatGPT includes:
- Written code
- Product descriptions
- Blog posts
- Email drafts
- Summaries of transcripts, meetings, and podcasts
- Simple explanations of complex topics
- Law briefs
- Translations
- Jokes or memes
- Social media posts
Bard is another AI-powered chatbot, presenting users conversations with natural language processing and machine learning through responses obtained from the internet. Bard originally used LaMDA for its dialogue applications, but the company has now upgraded to Google’s next-generation language model, PaLM 2 (Pathways Language Model). This model is promised to be better at common sense reasoning, logic, and mathematics compared to its predecessors, as Google explained their blog.
Bard is designed to provide more detailed answers to questions posed to its users than what a typical Google search would deliver with the help of its large language model.
Main Differences Between ChatGPT and Bard
The services of ChatGPT and Bard are similar — users type in a query to get a response similar to that of a human. In February 2023, Microsoft announced the release of technology for large companies to create and personalize their own chatbots using ChatGPT technology. Microsoft is also integrating AI-powered search functions into its Bing search engine and Edge browser with a chat experience to aid a user’s search. Google has yet to confirm when AI chatbot functionality will be added to its search engine.
The main difference between ChatGPT and Bard lies in their data sources. Bard extracts data in real time from the internet, so it has the latest information. On the other hand, ChatGPT’s sources conclude with 2021 data, limiting it to what has been researched before. Bard has a larger base of data to draw from and uses Google’s newest language model, PaLM 2, while ChatGPT utilizes GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 technology (available in its paid version, ChatGPT Plus). Additionally, Bard creates more chunks of information, while ChatGPT creates content from a single text prompt.
Which chatbot is better? It is still too early to tell, as the two are in their early stages of training. ChatGPT is reliable in generating and summarizing text requests, while Bard is more adept in answering questions with more accurate information. As users submit feedback, these chatbots are still developing and adjustments may be made in the future.
Generative AI Alternatives
Other AI content generators are available, as well as several startups developing their own projects such as ChatSonic, Jasper, Open Assistant, and Wordtune. In addition, Baidu, a Chinese search engine, has their own AI application called Ernie Bot.
The future of AI in marketing is rapidly evolving and finding more applications beyond content generation, such as customer service, email optimization, product recommendations, and social media posts.
A virtual assistant, commonly known as an AI assistant or digital assistant, is an application program that is able to understand natural language voice commands and accomplish tasks for its user. Inbound marketing is a strategy that focuses on bringing in customers, or leads, by producing internet content for their company, helping to generate brand awareness and increase sales.
